Michael, who owns the Hire Engine, was fantastic with the children.  He took them for a ride in the truck which sits up to 9 passengers.  With the music pumping, we caught the attention, smiles and waves of bystanders along the road. 

The children were also treated to a go at using the truck's fire hose.  It was such a hot day, and the children had fun running underneath the flow of water and cooling themselves in the misty rain.

At the end of the party, Michael presented Erik with a birthday gift of a fire truck money box and Matchbox fire truck. 

Erik said that his party was AWESOME!!!

If you ever want to hold an event that's unique, I thoroughly recommend "The Hire Engine".  It's not just for the kiddies - Michael will drive you and your friends around on a 4hr pub crawl.  How cool!  Or you can hire Michael's truck to take you to a school formal, wedding or for a hen's night with a difference.

We have settled in quite quickly at our new venue.  Now that we have our internet working again, we're all happy!  It got a bit stressful there for a day or so - dial-up is so slow and scarey!!  Who would have thought that we rely so much on broadband, and the day-to-day use of email.

Our new training facility is far more visible now, so students shouldn't have any problems finding us.  If the carpark is full when you visit, just be careful where you park on the street as there are some restrictions to be aware of - check the signs.

All in all, the DELTRA Australia team all agree that it feels great to be in our new home.

• Paul spends his spare time operating as a St Johns Ambulance Officer.  The next time you go to the Big Day Out or the Amberley Air Show, keep a look out for him - he will take good care of you!  Paul has also been active in the Army Reserve.  His experience on the field has provided him with a broad knowledge of many aspects of emergency response.
• Anna has years of experience as a Workplace Trainer.  As a former business-owner herself, she understands the pressures of ensuring that your workplace meets all legislative requirements.  Anna is also very active and willing to try just about anything - she loves a game of skirmish from time to time!
• Wayne is an ex-firefighter who knows what it is like to be in the midst of a genuine emergency.  His training experience spans many years, and consequently he is well positioned to provide advice on meeting legislative requirements.  Wayne is a keen sportsman, and particularly enjoys football.
• Previously, Sandra has travelled the world working as a nanny.  She now spends her spare time enjoying her two beautiful girls, but we think she is most successful in keeping us all in order at the office!
• Rhondel is a qualified Padi Rescue Diver, logging over 60 dives.  She is about to do her second dive in the shark tank at Underwater World.  Rhondel's previous experience as a teacher has enabled DELTRA Australia to successfully maintain regular compliance as an RTO.

These skills and experiences, along with those of our other team members, combine to make DELTRA Australia the successful RTO that it is today.

Paul started the evening with a session on Bomb Threat procedures, and this was followed by Anna presenting procedures for Hazardous Materials emergencies.  This topic is a new requirement under the Qld Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008.  Rhondel completed the evening with a presentation of the Fire and Evacuation procedures which have been designed specifically for that site.  Rhondel's humour maintained the participants' interest throughout the session.  At the end of the session, the General Manager commented to Rhondel, "You were on fire tonight!"   

The evening ended with all participants breaking into small groups, and doing a 'walk-around' of the facility.  This was fantastic, because it allowed staff to see areas within the facility which they had not been to before, and it allowed staff to put the emergency procedures into perspective.

All in all, it was a great evening.
